Useful steps for renting.
Prepare your viewing, application and lease review. Official resources are available below; some linked documents are in French.
Lease and inspection
Check the rent, charges, duration and other lease terms. Record defects and equipment with the landlord at the handover inspection.
Official resource ↗Rental security
For residential accommodation, a cash deposit may not exceed three months’ rent and is held in a bank account in the tenant’s name. Review other forms of guarantee separately.
Official resource ↗Initial rent
In Geneva, the initial rent must be communicated using the applicable official form; a BLACK IMMO property sheet does not replace it.
Official resource ↗Disputes
Geneva’s tenancy conciliation commission handles rental disputes. Procedures and deadlines depend on the issue; promptly consult the official guidance or an appropriate adviser.
Official resource ↗Application details
Provide information relevant to your application. Ask who receives it, how long it is retained and how to exercise your rights.
Official resource ↗This enquiry does not reserve a property or guarantee acceptance.
General information, not individual legal advice. Official texts and the circumstances of your case take precedence.
